AN INTRODUCTION TO JOB SHADOWING
What is Job Shadowing?
Job Shadowing is an opportunity to give students first-hand knowledge and experience in exploring the world-of-work. The student "shadows" are assigned to an employee to observe and to talk with the worker...asking the questions they feel are necessary to satisfy their desire to learn about the job.
How Does The Job Shadow Work?
Job Shadowing is open to all interested high school students. Each student will be allowed to select one occupation. He/she will be excused for a period of time during the regular school day to job shadow. Students will shadow a key employee for a half or whole day in their chosen career field. The student receives no-pay while participating in the shadowing program. Shadowing expericneces will be coordinated through the local school. Students will be required to do background research in their career areas prior to the shadowing experience. Permission slips from parents will be required and students/parents must arrange for their own transportation. Job Shadowing is considered a student filed trip and is an extension of the students school day.
THE STUDENT SHADOW LEARNS:

What the job is really all about, what skills, talents and qualifications are needed.
The importance of a team approach and the need for give and take in getting the job done.
The importance of communications skills, whether meeting the public, writing reports or filling out logs.
